Assuming I have to get up every morning from a mat on a very cold and wet night of discomfort and the various mosquitoe spots spread over my body like an airport runway, and having to go about the whole activities of life in a refugee camp, where even tomorow is not assured, and water and food to nourish us is in my imagination. Or for instance, life for me and my family is normadic, moving from one place to another, the dangers of the wild, wild and evil armies, and rebels, dangerous governments, and the natural elements, witnessing babies born to die for nothing, old men and women can't have the benefit of rest from all that life has done to them, yet in their age and weight, with three loegs, they move on, through, deserts, bushes, gun-fire, rapes, house burning, and happy children, who can't figure out the next child that will leave this cruel world in a matter of time. Every second counts, and every time is lost. Yet we have people who are at parties almost all their life, some don't know what it is like not to even have somebody to take of you, or to be able to have a good night sleep in the comfort of what we call a bed, and a roof over our heads. We have people who haven't tastes what clean and hygenic water feels like, even the to see their children play in safety and peace. That to me is lost childhood, and are they to blame.
Unfortunately, much is done but the effects are slowly getting to stay. It is said that we have to keep talking, for once we stop then we are dead. If i were to be leaving in any of this conditions, then how am I to be botheres about a laptop that is going to cost me $100, or is my government that is at war with rebels and with itself, purchase laptops for $100 and come to meet me in the forest where i am trying ro survive and hide from gagsters in army gear, to give me a laptop, and then CNN or BBc, maybe Al Jazeera will take a picture of me in just pants, no shirts, shoes, dirty mouth, bad breath, and a few injuries and bad health, with my mum in her old single clothes, curdling my younger ones who have nothing but eyes and tiny legs that still barely move, and then how am i going to enjoy it, soon after they are gone, the gangsters will swoop on us, kill some, rape some, burn our make shift rooms, and definately take the laptops. What a waste of research for people who are dying everyday, or rather a nice move to make money for the West. Do you think of what that means for the inventors of such a toy, there is almost over a billion people in africa in abject poverty and three quaters of this people dont have a home, they are at war, refugees or worse, multiply this figure by $100 and you will know what their plan is. Is it not enough that they come and buy our resources from us at cheap rates, give their farmers subsidies, and advice our governments to remove subsidies, they sell to us weapons for war, and some even come with the intention to infect our people in the name of vaccination, and the worst part of it is that our so called leaders have sold their souls for dollars, and yet they all still die. When is africa going to have a re-birth. when will we learn to live together, and when are we going to finally say this is what we want.
What is the big deal in a $100 laptop, it is not going to put food in my table, not going to give me a job, welfare, even retired workers don't get their terminal benefits, our hospitals are not standard, no lights, no peace, no justice.
I think the UN really needs this reform, and it shouldn't be championed by the west or by any region. Time is running out, and some day the UN may loose credibility and suffer the same faith as the league of nations. What happened to their role of protecting the rights of every human beign from supressive regimes, since this ill fated war in iraq, the UN is letting go of some of its vital tasks.
It is always about africa, every time on the news all you see about africa is hunger, disease, war, bad government, everything not so nice. And in the west it is about business and politics.
Sooner or later when all the money and the resources in africa must have finished, i wonder if there will be any more wars, or external influences.
If all this diseases and wars are not in africa, i wonder where they will be doing business, when will the UN really sanction the west, i dont think so, but i pray so.
Enough of all this talk about $100 laptops and it publicity, it is a shame to humanity, and to civilization.
